Freedom Run 10K 2012

I know it has been a while but I have wanted to do a race recap for the Freedom Run 10K.  The original plan was for me to run the 10K and for Jake, Kobe and McKenna to run the 5K.  Unfortunately, Jake’s feet still hurt from his little mishap a few weeks ago.   Kobe decided that he didn’t want to do it either.  So McKenna, Steph #2 and Rob did the 5K.  McKenna, Steph and I made ourselves these lovely little tutus for the big event.
I have decided that dressing up is how you get people to cheer for you.  I had so many people cheering for me and my tutu.  Last year no one was cheering and it was quite annoying…problem solved.
I saw Ashley at about the 4 mile mark she was all dressed up in her sparkle skirt waiting to run her mama in.  She cheered me on and made my day with a nice little dance J
I finished the race in 46:39, I PR’d but I was still disappointed with my time.  All I want is a sub 45 minute 10K…is that too much to ask?!?  Apparently so!!
As soon as I crossed the finish line I thought I was going to lose my lunch.  I have never come that close to throwing up after a race, it took every ounce of my being not to lose it on everyone standing around.  After I finally got my medal and water bottle I headed towards the food tables.  All I wanted was a cup of water.  I didn’t think I was asking for much, just a cup of water.  The dumb girl with a huge thing of water sitting right next to her wouldn’t give me any.  She told me that I had to wait in line to fill up my water bottle.  I said “I don’t want to fill up my water bottle I just want some freaking water!”  I wanted to punch her in the face :D  I looked behind me at the line and it was ridiculous.  I’m sorry but when you get done running in the hot sun you need WATER!!  The water bottle filling was taking FOREVER so I wandered over to a nearby drinking fountain and filled mine up.  I think it was great that they gave you the option to fill your fancy water bottle but they also needed to have cups ready and waiting at the finish.
Other than the water situation at the finish I would say this year’s race was sooooo much better than last years.  For starters they did a really great job of keeping the 5K-ers and the 10K-ers separate.  Last year that was a BIG problem.  I’m so glad they fixed that J  The crowd actually cheered, sure I had to wear a tutu but at least they cheered.  I didn’t really pay much attention to the water stations because after my experience last year I took my handheld thingy full of “Gin and Juice.”  The shirts were about a million times better than last years…still not my favorite but they are headed in the right direction J  I absolutely loved the water bottles that they gave out at the end but after one wash mine melted so it’s gone.
I LOVE this race and will continue to do it year after year!!

  1. I have a good friend who swears by dressing up because she gets more people to cheer for her (she was Wonder Woman at our 4th of July race).

Nice job with your race! That's really weird that they didn't have water readily available; water is the most important thing that they should have at the finish line. Maybe they'll fix that next year.

    1. Guess what Steph?!? Any normal sized 6th grader looks like a giant next to us :D Seriously, all of Kenna's friends are taller than me. I always look at their shoes and think what ginormous feet they have, then I try them on and they are too big, then I stand next to the child and decide that they aren't clown-footed freaks afterall ;)
